The Journey of One Man

From the Challenger Deep to Mount Everest this icon traveled. Proclaiming his dedication to the whiskey industry, he was driven to produce a scotch like no other! At age 14 he inherited his father’s farm after his passing. With the money from the farm, young John opened “John Walker Grocer” in Kilmarnock.

After sensing the inconsistency of the single-malts throughout his grocer, he wasn’t going to settle until he established the most recognizable scotch ever on the market. Years later, he was the recognizable name that obtained the famous distillery at Cardhu.

With his precise silky single-malt in hand, by 1860 a square bottle was designed with a label at an angle of precisely 24 degrees. This angled label meant larger text, which led to a noticeable presence on every shelf!

John’s grandsons led the company in the 20th century with the introduction of the Red and Black Label. By 1920 Johnnie Walker had made his way through 120 countries. The scotch whiskey was even awarded the Royal Warrant by King George IV for its extraordinary quality.

By the end of the 20th century, the Red and Black labels were joined by the Green, Gold, and the most sought after Blue Label. By the beginning of the 21st century, Johnnie Walker had made it around the world and become the largest whiskey brand to ever walk the earth!
